RUBBER DUCKY
I made this cake for the Anika's 1st birthday on October 22, 2005. She is the daughter of one of Blake's coworkers at Deloitte. Yeah, Blake passed my website on and, well, that's how it all starts, you know... :-)
The cake is made from the famous "Chocolate Blackout Cake" recipe by Margaret Braun, which is simply scrumptious. The icing is a basic decorator's buttercream. The filling is chocolate buttercream. Originally I was going to use my favorite italian meringue buttercream icing, but found out that raw eggs are probably not a good idea for young children. So I had to resort to the basic butter, shortening and powdered sugar version. It's a little too sweet for my taste, but couldn't be helped.
The little creatures, flowers, and baby ducks are made from colored white chocolate based candy, melted and poured into molds. Honestly, the creatures were the most fun to make! I even dusted the dragonfly wings with luster dust and painted the dots on the butterfly wings with edible silver!
