This is the cake I finally made for Jeanette's graduation from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in December 2000. It turned out totally different from my original cake design. The cake is a moist, dark chocolate with Kahlua buttercream frosting. I use rolled fondant for the first time to create the grape leaves for the centerpiece. I also use marzipan for the first time to create the centerpiece grapes. My boyfriend, Blake, actually made those as I was running out of time. Additionally, I created my own gel icing for the lettering. The rest of the details are made from Kahlua buttercream. It was delicious!
