This is the cake I made for my boyfriend, Blake, for Valentine's Day 2001. The cake is a red velvet cake with raspberry filling. I use rolled fondant for the first time as the main frosting to create a smooth finish. The details are made of classic buttercream icing. This is my first 2-tier cake. I also learned that colored fondant is light sensative and will fade when left exposed to light. You can't really see it in the picture, but the fondant fades from pink to white (it's original color).
